Southern biscuits and gravy

This is my FAVORITE breakfast dish; of course, it is also one of the most unhealthy, haha. But everything in moderation is ok. I have so many memories of my Mom and Dad making this for me growing up, and I’m glad I remembered their recipe. It is so easy and only takes about 15 min to prepare with the biscuits.

I hope you enjoy it!

Ingredients:

  • One pack of Farmer John breakfast sausages or any breakfast sausage of your choice. This is the brand my parents always used.

  • 4tbsp flour

  • 2tbsp unsalted butter

  • 4 cups of whole milk

  • salt and pepper

  • 1tsp oregano

  • Biscuits (I used the pillsbury southern homestyle)

Directions:

  1. After preheating the oven and adding in the biscuits, heat a medium sized skillet to medium high, brown sausage while breaking up into small pieces, I like to use this meat chopper.

  2. Remove sausage and set aside. Turn down heat to low.

  3. Melt 2tbsp of butter and slowly add flour 1tbs at a time while stirring.

  4. Add the sausage back in and 2 cups of milk, stir.

  5. Add salt, pepper, oregano and the rest of the milk. If you feel it is too thick you can add more milk or if you prefer it a little thicker you can add more flour.

  6. Simmer for about 5-10 min.

  7. Serve oven warm biscuits.
